The product
LetPot's lineup spans desktop 5-pod gardens to 21-pod automated towers like the LPH-Max, the first consumer system combining auto water-filling, auto nutrient dosing, auto LED lighting, and auto pump cycling. Systems are controlled via a 4.8-inch touchscreen, a mobile app, or Alexa, and grow plants up to 40% faster than soil with full-spectrum LEDs. Prices run from about $57 for the mini to $252 for the 21-pod Max, sold direct through letpot.com, Amazon, and crowdfunding platforms, with no seed subscription required. The 2026 LPH-Home adds a two-tier bamboo design with independent reservoirs and EC nutrient monitoring for 32 plants. The open growing system lets buyers use any seeds and growing sponges, a deliberate contrast to closed-ecosystem rivals.
How they did it
LetPot was founded in Hong Kong in 2019 by a small team including co-founder and marketing director Rex Lin, after COO Lynn's failed attempt to grow herbs with her kids exposed how badly home seed-starting worked. The team spent six months studying every smart garden on the market and shipped its first planter, then iterated relentlessly, releasing 14 products over seven years with a small in-house R&D group. Early campaigns on Indiegogo and Kickstarter built a base of dedicated growers, and the 2025 SS-Pro seed-starter Kickstarter blew past its tiny goal by more than 40x, raising HK$647,044 from 686 backers. In September 2026 the brand made its first appearance at IFA Berlin, Europe's biggest tech show, where its new LPH-Home two-tier garden drew positive feedback from retailers and distributors. The LPH-Home Kickstarter launched October 1, 2026 and passed its goal within hours. As of 2026 LetPot claims over 500,000 users worldwide, all built by a compact Hong Kong team without outside venture funding.
Why it worked
- Repeatable crowdfunding playbook: each campaign funds and validates the next product
- Full automation (water, nutrients, light) at budget prices undercuts premium rivals
- Open ecosystem with no seed subscription, unlike AeroGarden-style locked consumables
- Sustained iteration: 14 products in 7 years from one small team, compounding community trust
